Ivory Coast : the french journalist Jean-Paul Ney attempted suicide
A front-page story in L'inter and "L'intelligent d'Abidjan" said that the French freelance journalist Jean-Paul Ney, who was arrested recently in Ivory Coast on charges of threatening national security, had attempted suicide.
The journalist Jean-Paul Ney was arrested the 27 December 2007 and has been detained for 9 months at the infamous MACA prison in the Ivory Coast. He is charged with endangering the security of the state; the charges in fact address the work that investigative reporters typically do, and that Ney has been doing for over 10 year.
Today, after 9 months of incarceration, John Paul Ney’s health is at its lowest. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Paul Ney has been hospitalized twice. He is being treated for malaria and he has been suffering from typhoid fever. He also made a suicide attempt. His health is now concern, and we all fear for his life.
